The Verbum Project

Information about the project
The Verbum Project began in October 2002 at the Centre for Editing texts in Religion at Birmingham University and is now part of the Institute for Textual Scholarship and Electronic Editing. The aim of the Project is to produce a edition of the Old Latin versions of the Gospel according to St. John.

The first stage is the transcription of the thirty or so manuscript witnesses of the Gospel, using the Collate software. To these will be added information from the citations of the pre-Vulgate form of the text in the Church Fathers.

The electronic edition of these manuscripts is now available at www.iohannes.com.

The Project is being run with the collaboration of the Institut Vetus Latina in Beuron and will be published in their series: Vetus Latina: Die reste der altlateinisches Bibel. The project receives funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
